Steve Murphy of Canterberry GC shot 77 in the final round to earn a wire-to-wire victory in the 2006 CGA Senior Stroke Play Championship at Heritage at Westmoor. Murphy’s three-day total was two-under par 214, and he was the only player to finish under par for the tournament. He entered the final round having built a six-stroke lead over Richard Gorbell of Pine Creek GC. However, Murphy posted a nine on the par-5 sixth hole, and Gorbell began narrowing the gap throughout the rest of the round. Murphy made key putts down the stretch to keep Gorbell just behind him. On the par-3 17th, Murphy made a strong up-and-down for par, and Gorbell made bogey from the bunker to fall three behind going into 18. Murphy made bogey to win the title, and Gorbell made a triple bogey to fall into a second place tie at 219. For Murphy, this was his first CGA individual title.
Rick George of Castle Pines GC shot 73 in the final round to finish at 219 in a tree-way tie for second with Gorbell. The third 219 was posted by 2005 champion Robert Polk of The Pinery CC who finished with a 74. Fifth place went to David Brown of Highlands Ranch GC at 220.
