Kempton Dominates to Defend Her Title

From very early on, defending Junior Match Play champion Kayley Kempton of Englewood GC had her mind set on a repeat victory for 2006. From the 18-hole stroke play qualifying round, where she finished as medalist with a score of 74, to her final match with Elizabeth Kresock of Pinehurst CC, Kayley dominated play at Gleneagle Golf Club. Kempton worked her way through the match play bracket, handily defeating number eight seed Emily Wood of Salida GC 8 and 6 in the quarterfinal match, and then she won her semifinal match 6 and 5 against Bethany Buchner from The Olde Course at Loveland GC. In the final round, Kempton only needed 16 holes to defeat Kresock. Kempton was able to stick her iron shot two feet from the hole on the 115-yard, par 3. She then proceeded to birdie the hole to finish out the match 3 and 2.
