Pinehurst Country Club ““ Prestigious Pinehurst Country Club played host to the 34th Colorado Cup Matches in which the best CGA and CWGA amateurs battle the top Colorado Section PGA professionals. In the Open Division (12-player teams), the professionals successfully defended their 2003 title, and retain the Colorado Cup for another year. The amateurs led after the first day of competition, tying the Four-Ball team matches (1 ½ – 1 ½) and winning the Foursome team (alternate shot) matches (2 ½ – ½). However, the professionals took over in the Singles matches, winning 8 ½ – 3 ½ and giving them an overall 10 ½ – 7 ½ victory. The professionals now lead the overall series 24-8-2.
In the Senior Division (12-player teams), the amateurs retained the Senior Colorado Cup in a convincing 13-5 victory over the professionals. The amateurs won the Four-Ball team matches (2-1) and swept the Foursome team (alternate shot) matches (3-0). To seal the victory, the amateurs won the Singles matches 8-4. The senior amateurs now lead the overall series 13-7-2 since the Senior Colorado Cup was added in 1983.
In the Women’s Division (six-player teams), the amateurs successfully defended their title dominating the professionals 8 ½ – ½. The amateurs swept the Four-Ball matches 3-0, and won the Singles matches 5 ½ – ½ to retain the Women’s Colorado Cup for another two years. The amateurs now lead the series 2-0 since the Women’s Division was added in 2002 to be played every two years.
