Marathon Week

Former University of Colorado golfer Jenny Coleman shot a 1-over-par 73 and shares 45th place after Wednesday’s first round of the 90-hole final stage of LPGA Tour Q-school in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Coleman (pictured), who earned conditional status on the 2017 LPGA Tour through last year’s Q-school, went on to play in 10 events on that circuit this year, but made only one cut.

On Wednesday, Coleman made three birdies and four bogeys at LPGA International. She trails leader the five co-leaders by five strokes.

Also tied at 73 is Emily Childs, who spent one season playing at CU before transferring to Cal. Childs carded one birdie and two bogeys on Wednesday.

As for the other players with strong Colorado ties competing at Q-school, former Buff Esther Lee opened with a 76 and former University of Northern Colorado golfer Carleigh Silvers posted a 78.

The top 20 finishers after Sunday’s fifth round will earn fully-exempt status on the LPGA Tour in 2018. The remaining players who finish in the top 45 and ties — out of an original field of 165 — will have conditional status next year.

A cut to the low 70 players and ties will take place after four rounds.

Here are the scores for the local players competing:

Nov. 29-Dec. 3 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
45. Former CU golfer Jenny Coleman 73
45. Former CU golfer Emily Childs 73
117. Former CU golfer Esther Lee 76
140. Former UNC golfer Carleigh Silvers 78
