The University of Colorado women’s golf team came ever so close to claiming its second team title in two weeks — and in the process spoiling the fun for the home team.

But the Buffs, ranked 12th nationally in the last Golfweek women’s poll, finished a hard-charging second to host Washington on Wednesday in the UW Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash.

CU trailed by double digits early in the final round, but ended up just two strokes back of the Huskies. Colorado shot an even-par 288 in the final round to post a 9-over 873 total for 54 holes.

That means the Buffs have posted top-three finishes in each of their first three tournaments of the season, going third, first and second.

On Wednesday, they put three players into the top six individually out of a field of 63. Kirsty Hodgkins (pictured in a CU photo), the Pac-12 Conference’s women’s golfer of the month for September, tied for second with fellow CU sophomore Robyn Choi. They both posted 1-under 215 totals, leaving them three strokes behind champion Kendra Dalton of BYU. CU’s Brittany Fan placed sixth at 218.

Colorado State finished last in the 11-team field, with Ellen Secor’s 13th-place showing the best for the Rams.
