Best from Coloradans

Jackson Solem of Longmont, putting the finishing touches on a very good junior golf career, placed 25th out of 99 players Thursday at the Trusted Choice Big I National Championship in Madison, Miss.

And in the girls tournament, Lauren Lehigh of Loveland, the reigning 4A state high school champion, finished 26th out of a field of 59.

Solem and Lehigh won their respective Big I Junior Classic state titles in June, with Solem prevailing for the third straight year. They were two of the five Coloradans competing in Mississippi this week.

Solem, the 2015 4A state high school champion who’s headed to the University of Denver, shot rounds of 73-77 for a 5-over-par 150 total in the event, which was shortened from 72 to 36 holes due to the weather. Solem made five birdies over the course of two days.

University of Colorado-bound Cole Krantz of Windsor finished 79th (161) and Connor Burke of Greeley was 93rd (174).

In the girls tournament, Lehigh went 84-77 for a 17-over-par 161 total. Julia Baroth of Denver ended up 33rd at 162 after rounds of 79-83.
