The IMG Academy Junior World Championships ended on Thursday for all the Colorado participants — mostly by design, but in some cases due barely missing the 54-hole cut.

There’s only a 54-hole cut in the tournaments for the 15-18 age division for both boys and girls. In both cases, Coloradans were in position to advance to Friday’s final round with good scores on Thursday in the San Diego area.

Alas, it wasn’t to be.

Charlotte Hillary of Engelwood, who was in 23rd place going into Thursday in the girls 15-18 division, missed the cut by one stroke as she finished 43rd, while the top 40 and ties made it to Friday’s final round. The 2016 JGAC Tour Championship winner shot a 7-over-par 79 Thursday at Torrey Pines North and posted a 10-over 226 total. She made two birdies in round 3.

And Dillon Stewart of Fort Collins likewise missed the cut by one, in his case in the boys 15-18 tournament. Stewart finished 52nd, with the top 50 and ties making the cut. He closed with a 4-over-par 76 on Thursday at Torrey Pines South, putting him at 9-over-par 225 overall. He also carded two birdies in round 3.

(Updated July 14) Incoming Colorado State University golfer Parathakorn Suyasri, who qualified last week in Colorado for the U.S. Amateur, went on to finish 18th on Friday. He recorded rounds of 72-69-77-75 for a 5-over 293 total, which put him 13 out of the top spot.

All the remaining age divisions were simply 54-hole tournaments, so they ended on Thursday for everyone.

The top finisher by a Coloradan at Junior Worlds was Hadley Ashton of Erie, who was 28th out of 76 players in the girls 9-10 tournament. She went 81-78-74 for a 233 total.
